United States Representative Carolyn McCarthy is currently serving her 7th term representing Long Island's 4th Congressional District. First elected in 1996, Rep. McCarthy has served Long Island for over 12 years.
As Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Healthy Families and Communities, Rep. McCarthy has been instrumental in reauthorizing and drafting legislation to protect Long Island's children and improve the 4th Congressional District.
Rep. McCarthy also serves as a senior member of the Committee on Education and Labor, as well as the Committee on Financial Services. In these roles, She works to provide schools with the resources they need to educate our children and make college more affordable as well as overseeing the way our financial system operates while protecting the identity of Long Islanders.
Rep. McCarthy holds many honors. She is the first congresswoman from Long Island and is included in Newsday’s “100 Long Island Influentials,” Long Island Business News’ “Long Island Top 50,” Congressional Quarterly’s 50 “Most Effective Legislators,” Redbook Magazine's “Mothers and Shakers,” Ladies' Home Journal’s “100 Most Important Women,” and Advertising Age's list of “Most Impact by Women in 1999.”
A lifelong resident of Mineola, she has over 30 years experience as a nurse. |
