General Electric’s Women’s Health and Wellness Tour
in Sarasota, Fla., Will Feature The Cancer Project's Food for Life
Classes
SARASOTA, Fla. —GE Healthcare, a unit of General Electric Company, is raising awareness on issues that affect women’s health with the “GE Women’s Health and Wellness Tour.” The national, mobile tour designed to educate women about their own health and wellness will be at the Doctors Hospital of Sarasota on March 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. GE is partnering with the Doctors Hospital of Sarasota and Midtown Diagnostic Services to educate women about the importance of disease prevention and early detection.
Contained within a custom-designed, 53-foot vehicle, the tour is fully equipped with state-of-the-art clinical technology to offer education for women regarding breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and other health issues. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the vehicle’s Breast, Bone, and Heart Suites and to learn more about how mammograms are performed and the benefits of digital mammography.
The Cancer Project will be offering free Food for Life cooking class demonstrations designed to help attendees understand how diet affects cancer. The Food for Life cooking classes were designed by physicians, nutrition experts, and registered dietitians, and include information about how certain foods and nutrients work to promote or discourage cancer growth, along with simple cooking demonstrations that can be recreated easily at home.
The demonstrations will be done by Food for Life cooking instructor Ellen Jaffe Jones. Jaffe Jones is a vegan and an organic gardener. She attributes the fact that she is the only adult female in her extended family without heart disease or breast cancer to healthy eating. She has been teaching Food for Life courses since August 2005.
