PCRM Hosts Free Cooking Demo and Nutrition Talk for Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Suburban Hospital on Oct. 20

Bethesda, M.D.—Nutritionists with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) and The Cancer Project, a new PCRM affiliate, will host a free community event in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Suburban Hospital on Wednesday, October 20, at 6:30 p.m. The program is also sponsored by the Council on Humane Giving.

What: A free two-hour program, “Eating Right for Breast Cancer Prevention & Survival,” will feature a vegetarian cooking demonstration and a nutrition talk. Free booklets on good nutrition, as well as information on advances in humane breast cancer research, will also be available.

When: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2004

Where: Suburban Hospital Conference Center, 8600 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD

Cost: The event is free, but registration is required. Please RSVP to 202-686-2210, ext. 300

Why: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but many Americans don’t realize what an important role good nutrition can play in helping to battle this disease. A growing body of literature shows that a low-fat, plant-based diet may help with prevention and aid in survival.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a nonprofit health organization that promotes preventive medicine, especially good nutrition. Founded in 1985, PCRM also conducts clinical research studies, opposes unethical human experimentation, and promotes alternatives to animal research. The Cancer Project is a nonprofit organization that advances new approaches to cancer prevention and survival through nutrition education and research. Begun in 1991 as a program of PCRM, The Cancer Project became an independent, separately incorporated affiliate of PCRM in 2004. The Council on Humane Giving, a coalition of doctors and animal protection organizations administered by PCRM, certifies those health charities that fund vital services or life-saving medical research, but never animal experiments.
