Friends Who Make a Difference |
 |
The Cancer Project was created in 1991 as a special program of
the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. But it soon
became clear that educating the public about cancer prevention
and survival required a unique, independent focus. In 2004, The
Cancer Project became its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
This incorporation brings with it amazing opportunities for growth
and the responsibility to raise funds to support an ambitious goal:
Making cancer prevention a top priority for health care in the
United States.
We will need many, many friends to help us achieve this goal.
Funding is needed to continue established initiatives that are
vital to saving lives, including clinical research, outreach to
the medical community, and our free Food
for Life classes,
which are now provided to cancer survivors and their friends and
family in 23 states. We aim to educate as many people as possible
about the risk of cancer and what they can do to protect themselves
and their loved ones.
We know that friendships develop over time. Because cancer will
take the lives of more than half a million Americans this year,
we don’t want to waste a minute. Every supporter of The Cancer
Project is considered a treasure—we are only as effective
as the resources we have available for nutrition research and education.
We invite you to continue your support and help us make our relationship
stronger. Together, we can be a powerful force against a deadly
disease.
