PROGRAM OVERVIEW
According to the National Cancer Institute, approximately one-third of U.S. cancer deaths each year are related to dietary factors. Yet, most Americans are unaware that good dietary choices can help fight the disease. For years, The Cancer Project has been a leader in promoting the link between nutrition and cancer and how to put good dietary practices into action to help saves lives. In our commitment to further this effort, The Cancer Project formed the Educational Alliance Program to empower institutions around the world to fight cancer through good nutrition in their communities.
The Cancer Project’s Educational Alliance Program offers organizations the support to bring the message of the value of a healthy diet for cancer prevention and survival to those they work with and/or their members. Eligible* venues include:
- Educational institutions (middle and high schools, community colleges, and colleges and universities)
- Health, wellness, and fitness centers
- Medical centers and hospitals
- Culinary schools and groups
- Cancer organizations
- Faith groups with demonstrated commitment to health
The Educational Alliance Program is the perfect way for an institution to become a community leader in the area of nutrition education for cancer prevention and survival. Members of the Educational Alliance Program receive exclusive access to The Cancer Project’s innovative resources and a proven nutrition education and cooking class curriculum to incorporate into their institutions’ existing programs, classes, or service offerings. The curriculum is based on The Cancer Project’s celebrated Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Classes program, which has been deemed highly effective in inspiring lasting diet change by the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
